Eat
Cuban at dawn, Sinaloa on Market, Viet-Cajun crawfish, dumplings on 146. The map is not all chains.

The chain corridor on Garth will try to eat your trip. Let it feed a Tuesday. For a visit, use this short list.
Breakfast: Cuban Cafe. Not close. Kolaches at Denna’s on FM 3180 if you want Texas instead of Havana. Doughnut Wheel on Garth at 3:30 a.m. if you are the shift. Heart and Whisk on North Main for cinnamon rolls and a laptop (closed Mon–Tue).
Lunch: Pupuseria El Rey (closed Saturday — that is the fact people miss) or El Sinaloense. Downtown: Bocanegra’s if they’re open (closed Sunday). Hand-pulled noodles at Noodle Master. Dumplings and bao at Dumpling Time on north 146 if you are already that far east. Pho and vermicelli: Black Bayou on Garth.
Dinner: Rooster’s for the civic dish (the burger that won Texas). O’Neals for water and shrimp. Black Bayou on Garth for garlic crawfish — that is Viet-Cajun, not a downtown bar. Wazabi if it is a date and you are already parked on Texas Avenue (Tue–Sat, 5–10). Anchor & Hearth at the Hyatt if you want wood fire and tankers. CK’s on 146 for a boil. Mambo off I-10 if the table is six and loud.
Dessert is a cafecito you should have had at breakfast. Or banana pudding at Rooster’s. Or beignets at Black Bayou.

Fifty-plus years on Texas Avenue. Best Burger in Texas, 2016 — and they still act like it.

Vietnamese-Cajun on Garth. Crawfish that ruins other crawfish. Beignets after.
