The old reliable on Garth. Combination plates, no surprises, no shame.
Neighborhood
The commercial spine, and where every chain, every hotel and every Houstonian's mental image of Baytown lives. Garth is where you'll stay — Hampton, Home2, TownePlace, Holiday Inn Express, a dozen more — and where you'll get stuck at a light behind a truck. The San Jacinto Marketplace redevelopment at the old mall is the thing to watch; when it opens, this street changes. Black Bayou at 1930 Garth is the one independent restaurant on the strip worth the trip.
Where Baytown actually runs its errands.

The economic center of gravity slid north with the interstate, and it never slid back. Garth Road is the commercial spine: groceries, Tex-Mex, Thai, hand-pulled noodles, Viet-Cajun crawfish, hotels, the waterpark. Stay here if you want easy. Eat here on a Tuesday. Then drive south to downtown or the Nature Center so you remember why you came.
Black Bayou is here (1930 Garth), not downtown. Noodle Master, Nara Thai, El Toro, Doughnut Wheel at 3:30 a.m. — this is the city’s actual metabolism.
Parking. Every lot is a strip lot. You will be fine.
