Part-time jobs in Baytown

For students, parents, retirees, and anyone with a plant schedule that leaves half the week open.

Where part-time is normal

• Retail and grocery — H-E-B, the big boxes, Buc-ee's — schedule around school and offer benefits at fewer hours than you'd expect; H-E-B's part-time benefits are the local benchmark.
• Restaurants and the trucks — evening and weekend shifts, tips, the easiest schedule to shape. Tex-Mex on Sunday is the busiest shift in town.
• The hotels — breakfast attendants and weekend housekeeping are part-time by design; before a turnaround they'll take any hours you have.
• The library, the water park, the pools, the summer camps — the city's seasonal and part-time roster, sixteen and up for most of it, lifeguard certification paid for some years, and the best first job in town.
• The school districts — substitute teaching (the requirement varies by district; check theirs), aides, crossing guards, bus monitors, cafeteria; set your own days.
• Lee College — student jobs on campus and the work-study program; the PAC hires ushers by the show.
• Tutoring, coaching, refereeing — the youth leagues pay referees and umpires by the game; the youth page has the leagues and their seasons.
• Delivery — the platforms work here, mostly on Garth and the freeway; the payout is what it is and the gas is yours.
• The churches and nonprofits — nursery workers, office help, the food pantry's paid coordinator some places.

The plant-schedule question

A lot of Baytown's part-time workers are plant families: the operator works four twelves and has three days off, the spouse works two. The hotels, the districts and the retailers all know this and schedule around it; say "plant schedule" at the interview and they'll understand. The reverse is also true — the plants' contractors take part-timers for turnaround support roles in the office and the lots.

For seniors

The library, the districts' crossing guards and monitors, the hospital's volunteer-to-paid pipeline, the city's front desks, the Nature Center's gate. The seniors page has the programs.

For students

The water park in summer, the leagues year-round, tutoring through the districts, Buc-ee's if you can get on. No school-issued work permit — Texas doesn't use them; the Workforce Commission's child-labor rules apply, and a Certificate of Age from TWC is the document an employer may ask for.

The paperwork

Same as any job: ID, Social Security card, a phone. For anything with kids — camps, leagues, schools, church nurseries — a background check, which the employer runs and pays for.

Questions people ask

Which places hire at fifteen or sixteen? The city's seasonal jobs, restaurants with a permit, some retail. Is there weekend-only work? The hotels and restaurants, every week. Do part-time jobs get benefits? H-E-B and some chains at a threshold; ask the number.
